RTC360 - Explanation of Warning Message "External Force Detected"

The “External Force Detected” message is created by the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) which detects accelerations in any direction.

Effects that might register as such:
  1. scanning on vibrating flooring e.g. in refineries
  2. scanner leg not fastened correctly and quickly slipping a little during operation
  3. something/ someone physically knocking into the scanner
Depending on the size of acceleration the effects on the data might not be noticeable to the user.

The message however warns the user that some vibrations are detected during the scanning process, to double-check his data quality and potentially re-scan this position.

There are two messages depending on the force:

  1. “External force detected”: 0.1 m/s2. Scan continues but message remains on screen to press "Ok". User decides if wishes to delete this scan and repeat scan on seeing the message.
  1. "Critical External force detected. Scan was aborted”: 0.7 m/s2.
When "Tilt Change Monitoring" is deactivated on the MMI, no messages about "tilt change" or "external force detection" will appear.
